MTWC is excited to offer the tools for you to join together in a transportation workforce Community of Practice (CoP). Our Google-hosted forum is for questions, answers, links to solutions, links to articles and videos, etc.

What is a Community of Practice?

A community of practice is a group of people who share an interest or concern for something they do. In our case, our shared concern is for developing the transportation workforce in the Midwest. A community of practice helps us to learn how to do our work better and smarter through regular interaction with each other. The MTWC Community of Practice is an online forum that is available to us, as a community, to post and respond to each other’s questions and concerns about developing the Midwest’s transportation workforce.

Signing Up for and Using the MTWC Community of Practice

You must have already created a Google account to proceed. If you have not already done so, go to https://accounts.google.com/signup and create an account.

Join the MTWC Community of Practice

  1. Navigate to https://plus.google.com.
  2. In Google+, enter “MTWC” in the Search field and press Enter.
  3. Select the Communities tab at the top of the window.
  4. The MTWC Community of Practice will appear in the search results (look for the logo).
  5. Click the MTWC Community of Practice pane to enter the community page.
  6. Click the red Join button to join the MTWC Community of Practice Google+ community.

You’re ready to begin posting and participating in the MTWC Community of Practice.

Posting to the Community

Note: These instructions assume that you are using the newest Google+ interface.

Start a Post

  1. Start typing in the text box at the top of the page where it says, “What’s new with you?”
  2. Google+ displays the new post window.
  3. Post a video, photo, link, or comment (see below).
  4. Select the category under which you want this post to appear.
  5. Click Share when done composing your message.

Post a Photo

  1. In the new post window, click the blue Photos icon.
  2. Click either “Upload from Computer” or “Your Google photos”
  3. Select one or more photos and click Done OR upload a photo from your computer.
  4. If you like, enter a comment where the new post window reads, “What’s new with you?”
  5. Select the category under which you want this post to appear.
  6. Click Share.
Post a Video
  1. In the new post window, click the red Video icon. A new screen is displayed.
  2. Select the source of the video that you want to share from the tabs at the top of the window. You can select the video from any of the following places:
    • Search and find it on YouTube
    • Paste the URL of the video
    • Search for and find it on your own YouTube channel
    • Upload a video
  3. Select the desired video and Click Add.
  4. Enter additional comments, as you like.
  5. Select the category under which you want this post to appear.
  6. Click Share.

Post a Link

  1. In the new post window, click the yellow Link icon.
  2. Paste the link that you want to share in the Attach: field.
  3. Enter additional comments, as you like.
  4. Select the category under which you want this post to appear.
  5. Click Share.
