Partnerships are essential for colleges to be successful as they develop their Registered Apprenticeship programs and become program sponsors. In this webinar, Christopher Cox, from Zurich North America Insurance, will share insights on the company’s motivations and goals for establishing their Registered Apprenticeship program and the unique collaboration with Harper College that developed from that endeavor. Rasmus Nielson, with Logitalent, will discuss how colleges can engage with companies to create a demand for, and an appreciation of, the valuable employees that grow out of apprenticeship programs. Dr. Rebecca Lake, from Harper College, will discuss key strategies for developing partnerships with area companies and business associations and touch on other important partnerships that have made Harper’s program a success.

Dr. Teresa Adams, Director, Midwest Transportation Workforce Center, University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Teresa Adams is a Professor of Transportation Engineering and City Planning in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and is Executive Director and Principal Investigator of the National Center for Freight and Infrastructure Research and Education (CFIRE). She is also the principal investigator for the Mid-America Freight Coalition (MAFC) and Midwest Transportation Workforce Center (MTWC). Dr. Adams led the 21st Century Workforce Development Summit, an effort funded by Wisconsin DOT, one in a series of regional summits used to identify needs, set goals, strategies, and best practices across various transportation career paths. The regional summits culminated in the National Transportation Workforce Summit, which Dr. Adams also co-led in the spring of 2012 in Washington, DC. Adams holds a PhD and MS in civil engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a BS in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
Rebecca S. Lake, Ed.D, Dean of Workforce and Economic Development, Harper College
Dr. Lake is Harper College Dean of Workforce and Economic Development. The department houses four large federal grants, the Harper Job Placement Resource Center, the Small Business Development Center, and the Office of Apprenticeships. She is an ApprenticeshipUSA Leader and is director of Harper’s strategic apprenticeship initiatives. Before coming to Harper, Rebecca wrote and taught in the Community College Leadership (CCL) doctoral program at National Louis University serving as program director for 10 years. She spent the first half of her professional life involved in health planning, hospital and health care administration, and nursing while the second half in community college teaching and administration. Dr. Lake has held community college positions of faculty, assistant dean, career and technology (CTE) dean, and academic vice-president.
Christopher Cox, Human Resources Director of Talent Acquisition, Zurich North America Insurance
Most recently he has been recognized for his contributions with regards to the design, development, and talent acquisition for the “first in the US” Corporate Apprenticeship program. Christopher has been in the Human Resources field for over 20 years holding titled positions within the Learning & Development, Talent Management, Talent Acquisition, and Human Resources Management areas. Chris has been recognized as an industry expert in prominent publications such as the “Wall Street Journal” and “Business First” for his work in the areas of new employee entry, induction, and accelerated domestic and international training programs. Entry level induction programs (Foundational Talent Training Programs) designed by Christopher Cox won Zurich the Talent Acquisition Brandon Hall Award for 2015. Rasmus Nielsen, Director of Talent, Development & Training, Logitalent Inc.
Rasmus Nielsen started his career in freight forwarding in Denmark in 1998, through an apprenticeship program in logistics. After he finished his apprenticeship, Rasmus moved to the U.S. to further pursue his career. During his 18 years in logistics, he has grown from trainee, to export agent, to operations manager, to branch manager, to director of sales. Rasmus has built and led numerous operations and sales teams across multiple branches. During his time spent in leadership roles, it became apparent that his core talent and passion was in coaching and developing sales executives, operations personnel and future leaders. In October 2016, Rasmus left his job as Director of Sales for a $200 million company, and became a partner in a Talent Management company, focused on the logistics industry. His expertise and passion, is what Rasmus brings to Harper College in an outreach role to help promote the apprenticeship model. When he’s not developing and coaching others, Rasmus enjoys spending time with his family and doing almost anything involving the outdoors. He also likes to travel, try new restaurants and watch soccer.
